It might be mid-September in Canada, but you can still see some homegrown peaches at your local grocery store, and perhaps at a farmer’s market or roadside stand if you live in peach-growing regions.

Production increases in 2025
In 2025, nationwide marketed production of fresh peaches totalled 20 242 tonnes, up from 16 584 tonnes in 2024. Farmers received $47.7 million for their crop in 2025, the highest value in three years.
Although the production increase in 2025 (+3 658 tonnes) was the highest year-over-year increase since 2007 (+6 004), production has trended downward over time. The 40 754 tonnes produced in 1996 likely remains the all-time high since we started tracking peach production a century ago.
From 1982 to 1995, data were only available for Ontario and British Columbia. During that period, Ontario’s production peaked at 39 359 tonnes in 1995, while British Columbia’s production peaked at 12 297 tonnes in 1987. Ontario accounts for most of Canada’s peach production in a given year, and British Columbia makes up most of the remainder.
From 1926 to 1981, production was reported in bushels, a dry-volume measure roughly equal to 36.4 litres. In 1926, Canadian farmers produced 238,000 bushels of fresh peaches, and this number nearly quadrupled to 1.0 million bushels in 1933. Production during this period peaked in 1961, at 3.1 million bushels.
Record low cultivated area
The 2,338 hectares of cultivated area nationwide in 2025 was the smallest on record in the 30-year history of tracking these data.
The 1,787 hectares cultivated in Ontario in 2025 was also the lowest on record in that province. As for British Columbia, growers in the province cultivated 521 hectares in 2025 amid better growing conditions, unchanged from 2024 and up from the all-time low of 417 hectares in 2009.
Less availability
Our food availability series estimates the amount of food available in Canada on a per-capita basis. In 2025, there were 0.85 kilograms of fresh peaches available per Canadian, down from 0.89 kg in 2024 but slightly higher than the 0.82 kg recorded in 2023, the lowest amount on record since we started tracking the data in 1960.
In 1975, an all-time high of 3.02 kg of fresh peaches were available per Canadian, and 1980 (2.10 kg) was the last time that amount exceeded 2 kg.
