Marketable production of natural gas rose 3.4% from the previous record set in 2024, reaching 8.2 billion gigajoules in 2025. Exports increased to 3.7 billion gigajoules (+6.4%), while domestic demand rose to 5.3 billion gigajoules (+2.7%) over the same period.
A rapid snow melt or heavy rain on sodden frozen ground can lead to flooding in low-lying areas. In 2023, 4% of households, or approximately 673,600 households across Canada, reported that their homes were at a very high or moderately high risk of flooding.
In 2024, more than four-fifths (83.3%) of the $11.8 billion in capital expenditures on power plants were directed at non-emitting electricity sources (hydro, nuclear, wind, solar and biomass).
Electricity generated from all sources in Canada totalled 625.2 million megawatt-hours (MWh) in 2025, up 2.6% over 2024 and enough electricity to power 56 million homes for a year. Meanwhile, electricity available for consumption jumped 3.6% to 618.3 million MWh.
